This Medford Family Has 8 Kids, An 80-Acre Homestead, And A Massive Secret...

If you’ve spent any time at The Village Medford Center lately, you’ve likely noticed the bustling energy around two of our favorite sister stores: Kid to Kid Medford and Uptown Cheapskate Medford.

While Kid to Kid focuses on the little ones—from babies to growing kids—Uptown Cheapskate covers the teens and adults. Together, they create a one-stop resale paradise for the whole family right here in Southern Oregon.

But the real magic behind these stores comes down to the local family running them. Meet Angie and Jake, the proud parents of eight children (with three married and their very first grandbaby). When they aren't at the stores, they live on an 80-acre homestead where they grow their own food and flowers, raise heritage pigs, a herd of wildly named Nigerian Dwarf goats, and hang out with their livestock guardian dogs, Bear and Birdy.

For Angie and Jake, family and community are everything—and that is exactly what inspired them to bring these two premier shops at The Village Medford Center to our city.

The Thrill of the Resale Hunt

Angie and Jake have always loved the "hunt" of finding super unique clothes, wearing them a few times, and then passing them on for someone else to enjoy.

"It’s just so fun to get to make a business out of circulating beautiful items," Angie says. "Resale allows everyone to share in the fun of upscale fashion without the retail price tag."

Between Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, they’ve created a loop that grows right alongside your family. Parents can bring in the clothes their toddlers have outgrown to Kid to Kid, get cash on the spot, and then head right next door to Uptown Cheapskate to find something unique for their teenagers or themselves. It's the ultimate way to enjoy shopping and dining in Medford, OR without having to drive all over town.

Fashion That Heals the Planet

For Angie, the love for resale goes much deeper than just finding a good deal or a vintage gem. It’s about making a real, tangible impact on the environment.

"I can, in good conscience, buy something pretty inexpensively, have a great day in it, sell it, and pass it on with no environmental impact," Angie explains. "Did you know it takes 700 gallons of water to make just one cotton shirt, and 2,000 gallons for a single pair of jeans? When you buy secondhand and keep clothes in the loop, it cuts their carbon footprint by 84%. We can change the world through resale, and look amazing doing it."

By shopping at both Kid to Kid and Uptown Cheapskate, Medford families are actively keeping hundreds of thousands of garments out of landfills and conserving incredible amounts of resources—all while keeping local dollars right here in our community.

People First, Clothes Second

While the clothes are great, if you ask Angie and Jake what the most rewarding part of the job is, they will answer without hesitation: the people.

Building these stores has been a true labor of love. Angie recently took some of her local staff down to Phoenix, Arizona, and traveled out to Texas to train at other locations, bringing back fresh excitement and ideas to the Medford team.

"We get the distinct honor to be a part of people’s lives through the seemingly benign act of resale," Angie says. "But really, we get to celebrate life, bring joy and beauty into people's homes, and put cash right back into their pockets when they sell to us."

For this homesteading family, business is ultimately about connection.

"We believe pouring into healthy relationships and families makes great people. Great people make great communities, and great communities are what we are all, deep down, longing to be a part of. We want to love people well, pour into our staff, and count it an honor to speak into someone's life with each interaction."
